Petroglyphs, Nine-Mile Canyon, Utah
The voices from the past echoed down the canyon, and I could feel their presence as I climbed a rocky incline to reach this petroglyph. The people who lived here, from 950-1250 AD. created what is known as “the longest art gallery” and were part of a civilization called the Fremont Culture. They produced an estimated 10,000 individual images in 1,000 different sites in this 40-mile canyon. In the 16th century the Ancestral Utes lived in the canyon and added their style of art to the art already there.
