Hunting Scene

Nine-Mile Canyon, Utah

The voices from the past echo down the canyon, and I could feel their presence as I stood before the well-known dynamic scene of people in various hunting positions. The people who lived here, 950-1250 AD., created what is known as “the longest art gallery” and were part of a civilization called the Fremont Culture. They produced an estimated 10,000 individual images in 1,000 different sites in this 40-mile canyon. In the 16th century the Ancestral Utes were living in the canyon and added their style of art to art already there.
